Rob Lalain has been crafting songs since he was just 12 years old, and impressively, he has preserved every single song he has ever written and recorded. A self-taught multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, Rob finds profound inspiration in The Beatles, both collectively and as individual artists. Their melodic sensibility and emotional honesty have significantly influenced Rob’s lifelong philosophy toward songwriting: to tell the truth, serve the song, and allow the music to speak for itself.
Rob made his initial foray into the music industry in 1989 with the release of his debut single, “Drifting Apart/Take Away Love.” After recording a song for his sister’s wedding in 1997, he took a hiatus from music for over two decades. However, like many artists, this period of quiet was short-lived.
During the 2020 pandemic lockdown, Rob rediscovered his passion for songwriting. What started as a creative outlet quickly reignited a full artistic resurgence. In 2020, he released four songs, followed by three additional tracks in 2021, including material developed during sessions with Ryan Tedder.
This creative revival reached its peak with his comeback album, Back To The Start: The Album, a project featuring six new songs alongside remastered versions of his earlier work. The album resonated deeply, earning critical acclaim and surpassing one million streams. Later in 2024, Rob revisited his roots with “Drifting Apart.”
In July 2024, he released Life, further solidifying what critics described as a remarkable and authentic return to music. Throughout 2024 and 2025, Rob maintained his momentum with the release of four singles — “No More,” “Run Away,” “Day or Night,” and “Fire.” These songs would eventually become part of his most personal and emotionally revealing album to date.
On January 23, 2026, Rob released The Way We Were, a deeply introspective and narrative-driven album that captures a season of profound emotional highs and lows. The record unfolds almost like a diary set to melody.
